Whyis it forbidden to climb? If it is unstable, perhaps it should also be forbidden to stand under!

Re: WhyI think it's not stable enough indeed. And I think when it's allowed to many people try to climb it. It's also a world heritage monument.

Where?Where is this formation? And what is it's name? I'm wondering if it should be included in the Südpfalz Page which stretches across the border into Alsace / Vosges. This formation also already is on French ground.

Re: Where? When you push the blue coordinates under my picture you can see the exact location. It near Waldeck, and that is near Bitche. It looks indeed like Sudpfalz. I think it the same geological area. In my album is a picture taken from the side. I never saw a stranger rock like this in my life. I found it in a dutch travel guide, and never saw it in another guide.
The name is Erbenfelsen.

Re: Where?I looked on the maps of your pages, and yes indeed. Its just over the border.
Also in that area is Le Grand Steinberg. It's like a big red ship. It's in the Forest of Hanau.

There must havebeen some glaciers moving through this area at one time, to create such an unusual formation!
