What precautions should be taken for an overnight hike up to Horseshoe Lake? Are the bears or other wildlife bad enough that we should bag and hang our food away from camp?
Horseshoe Lake is above timberline so hanging smellables is not an option. I have not seen bears on Wheeler at this elevation but have had to shake ground squirrels out of my pack during a break on a day hike at the lake.

mileageThis seems to be the least-taken route on Mt. Wheeler. It sounds attractive. Do you know the approximate hiking mileage from the TH? Thanks.
