Day 2. We woke up at Gilmore Lake and leisurely made our way up the PCT to access the ridge to Dicks Peak. We started the 'scramble' up to the summit and quickly noticed multiple groups ascending the ridge. I counted 15 or so people and a dog. To our knowledge, not one of them actually tried to climb Dicks. Not really sure what they were all doing there. We enjoyed lunch on a windless peak before traversing the saddle to Jacks Peak. While doing so thunder started rolling miles to the south around the Mokelumne Wilderness. We had enough time for Jacks, but we stopped the leisurely pace. Forcing class 3 up to Jacks was fun, but once we made the summit we found the highpoint and headed down straight away. Our goal was to make it to the north shore of Aloha, but found an incredible campsite on the south slopes of Jacks near a tarn, so we set up camp. Immediately we were hit with heavy rain, and we jumped into our tents for a 30 minute rest. The rain stopped, the skies cleared, and we enjoyed a very relaxing evening looking down upon Lake Aloha.
16 mile day hike from Emerald Bay out&back. Not very desolate out there on a Saturday, but still beautiful.

Long day
This was supposed to be both Dicks Peak and Jacks Peak, but the wind slowed us down. A small group was able to tag both.

From Glen Alpine
Day hike loop past Susie Lake, then up Jacks and across to Dicks. Fun day - 8 hrs 15 min. Had to deal with some snow in a chute up to Jacks and also on the descent from Dicks.
Beautiful day. Only saw one other person in the back country.
Solo.
Also, repeated the same route with John, except we dropped down from Jacks. John did not like the traverse.

Trail up/traverse to Jacks down
Long day hitting all four peaks (Tallac, Dicks, Jacks, and Pyramid) from Glen Alpine.
Wonderful climb, saw lots of interesting wildlife. Off trail and a steep scramble at the top forced us down just off summit.

4 day backpacking trip through Desolation Wilderness. Definitely more challenging to climb with a large pack, but we still made it! Then we traversed over to Jacks! Long fun windy day.

Ice climbing on Dicks?
Yes it's true we hiked ice gear all the way into Dicks Peak because there was nowhere else to find ice in Tahoe. Turns out the extremely low snow and cold temps created very firm snow conditions (what there was of it) and a thick WI2 flow in a gully on the right side of the north face about 40 meters long, which we enjoyed. I don't expect to see this ever again!
