Trail
I was sort of successful...Made it to the top of the standard trail in 25 minutes or so. The true summits are steep technical climbs, so I had to forgo any attempt at those. Fun hike with some minor scrambling and numerous side trails to explore.

Side trails are more fun
What a better day to spend Valentine's weekend than hiking around Sedona's tolerable spring Sun. We hiked up the standard trail and than looped around all of those buttes, trying various climbs here and there. Very enjoyable half day, exept for the parking which is very limited considering the numbers of visitors.

Painfully awkward but not overly technical. Fantastic views of Sedona and the North rocks. Bring a register if you get a chance - the old one's in pieces....
The slender spire to the south (left side) coming up the Back 'O
Beyond Trail is called The Mace, and it is climbable.
I accompanied my wife up to The Pass or The Col. This is where a
faint trail goes down the opposite side toward Red Rock Crossing.
When you're up on top, there's a flat rock to sit down. Now,
look at a prominent crack between two spires to the SW, and
you'll see where somebody left their rope hanging.
Was that an SP-member's rope, or just a "loco-local's?"

Amazing
Went to the col? Amazing place and such a great view. I would love to figure out a way to the true top of one of them but it's is probably illegal and certainly lethal.

Did not summit (not sure if it is even possible), but went to what the locals refer to as the "top". Met amazing people from all over the world who came to ring in the new year with the "vortex". Bathed in a stunning desert sunset during my descent.
Climbed with my wife Mary. The beauty of the red rocks of the Sedona area is equal to the beauty of Mount Rainier and the Grand Canyon. A wonderful respite from the cold Wisconsin winter.

This is not too steep for the most part but get an early start as the sun heats up this side in the afternoon. Well worth the effort for the views and the many scrambling options once at the end of the trail. The actual summits are not do-able unless you have a death wish but exploring this rock is always rewarding. I first hiked it in 1975.
