Southwest ravine
Parked by the cattle guard and barbed wire fence to the south/southwest and walked up. Not a pleasant ascent due to the crumbly nature of the footing but that same quality made the direct south descent easy and fast. Lots of tires being illegally dumped off the mountain into the ravines and prairie below. The hang gliding launch site was great. Two hours and fifteen minutes up.

road hike
the weather was pretty unsettled so we decided on something low elevation. The snow was gone but road still gated so we walked the 2000ft vertical to the summit on the road and then took a shortcut straight down. Views of higher peak were obscured by clouds but lots of lava fields in sight.
Road was closed off to cars, nice hike with 30+ mph winds in the saddle 3/4 of the way up. Amazing view of eastern Idaho.

Crosscountry far more rewarding
I had done this when I was younger always doing the road route. Decided I wanted to make this prominent butte as hard as it deserved to be. I was rewarded with Jerusalem Sunflowers and many shades of Indian Paintbrush. I ended up taking the Southeast ridge which was far greener than the road.

Drive Up
Did this on my way to Arco from doing Cache Peak earlier in the day. This was my 4th summit and 2nd drive up of the day after not sleeping the previous night, thank you 5 hour energy!

Drive up
Dennis Poulin and I did the drive up after a long drive from near Darby Montana. The road up seemed to be in much nicer shape than the year before and we were lucky enough to have the summit to ourselves. Dinner was at Pickle's in nearby Arco (where my dad was born). We headed for the "trailhead" for Bell Mountain afterwards which made the drive for the day even longer.

East Ridge 03, East Ridge '08. I've not done the road.
This "peak" is a great early season warm up because it is snow free earlier than anything else in the area.
The summit was really nice - good weather, and excellent views with lots of fresh show on all of th epeaks around the area. What is the history of the fancy look out on top of the summit.? Is it a Cold War relic ?
