what a blast!!!!is this mountain. We climbed it via west arete and went down south ridge and off trail southwest route from and to Lodner Hütte.

Lodnerferner up, Andelsferner downI ascended the normal route from the Lodner Hütte over the Lodnerferner. As I started out, my plan was to return the same way, but the conditions were excellent, it wasn't very late, and I felt energetic. So I changed my plan and looked for a different way down.
I wanted to get to the Andelsboden, to the east, for I knew that from there I could easily get back to the hut. But the mountain was far too steep that way. I had not brought my guidebook, so I had to figure it out for myself. After descending the crux to the shoulder north of the summit, I found a fine snow filled couloir going down to the Andelsferner to the northeast. In normal years, there wouldn't have been any snow left by mid July, so I was lucky.
