View east from along the western route to the south summit. The south summit is to the right. The shear cliffs of the summit and sides of the Cross Mountain Gorge and the Yampa River are highly visible. Notice the rapids of the river located over 1200 feet below. The old metamorpic rocks (colored dark red) can be seen deep in the anticline. The rocks above are limestone (top) and sandstones and are much younger.
