Moody Day on Vasquez
Great hike. Followed the continental divide trail to the north west ridge to ascend the final thousand feet. Descended down into the saddle to the south, then down the valley to the continental divide trail again the mine was very loud for the first hour or so, but enjoyed how the continental divide trail followed, right near the tree line.

From Jones Pass TH
Started from the TH just before 9:30 am. Beautiful fall day with colors and no wind. Lots of sun. Clear day with views to the Flat Tops, Gore, Elk, Sawatch, Tenmile, Never Summers, and Front Ranges. We were the only party on the mountain. Back to the car by 1:30.

Sunrise Happy Hour
Started around 7am at the end of the Henderson Mine Road before the first switchback up to Jones Pass. At least 25 tents pitched in and around the meadows there were the road comes out of the forest, including a group of at least 20 people, half dozen dogs, and a drone camped in one spot. Total shitshow. But once I found a place to park and headed up (just headed straight east and up towards the CDT) didn't see another person until I got back to my car 2.5 hours later.

Vasquez via Henderson Mine
Parked at the TH just West of Henderson Mine and started on the CDT Stanley Spur Trail, and then headed West at the junction on the Continental Divide Scenic Trail. After a couple of switchbacks from the junction, and just at tree line, we scrambled off trail up the ridge toward Vasquez Peak. It was a little steep, but rewarding since that was most of our elevation gain. After we crested an unnamed peak, there was another saddle separating us and Vasquez. The saddle didn't take much of our hard-earned elevation and had a nice quartz looking rock cairn to greet us. Once on Vasquez, the views of Jones Pass were stunning, and we saw only one other group heading our way (on a Saturday!). They must've taken another off-trail route. We continued following the divide (no trail) heading West until we intersected with the Continental Divide National Scenic Trail, and followed that East back to where we started. It got a little steep heading down Vasquez going West, but manageable. Overall it was a 7.9 mile loop hike with 2870' gain, and a fantastic day with my two friends and two dogs.
I started around 7AM, reached the summit around 9AM. Clear skies, but windy above treeline, and very windy and cold at the summit. The zipper broke on my jacket, but I had another one. I had planned on heading over to Nystrom, reconsidered due to the wind, but then decided to go for Nystrom when the wind died down.

Nice high, gentle ridge run along the Continental Divide from Stanley Mountain via the "Henderson Cut-off" trail by the mine site. Windy day though, should have run it in the other direction to keep the wind at my back instead!
Started from Berthoud Pass, went off trail after making it to the top of the Peak. It took hours to make it back to Vasquez Pass. Stay on the ridge, and never leave it.

An interesting challenge
This was my second attempt on this peak - the first, a few weeks before, I had to turn back because of snow. Started up through the forest by the Henderson mine (previous time, tried from the road instead), which was a challenge, given that we couldn't find the trail.
A nice summit anyway, and a good warmup to the 14er season!

Continentel Divide Trail to East Ridge
This was my last training hike for Mount of the Holy Cross. Did this to the saddle with full pack.
Parked at the Trail head, yet could not find it. Headed up the road looking for it and stopped at an old closed off road I thoutht might be the trail. Realizing that the trail was 600 feet above me I hiked straight up the mountain to the trail. This saved my a few miles and at least an hour. Headed to the pass and took off my pack and put on my day pack for the rest of the hike up.
On the way down I stayed on the trail until I found the conjucting trail and took it down. Found that it starts in the middle of a grass field, would of never found it on the way up.
Beautiful skies all day. Spent 45 minutes on the summit, wished I did not have to get back to the city, could of spent a couple of hours up there.
