I remember this mountain page, when initially offered, was a huge mess and it eventually disappeared. Your reworking is excellent and your photos really illustrate the area very well. I would some day like to visit this place as it is very reminiscent of Capitol Reef, one of my favorite places in Utah.
Dinosaur has lots of cool stuff. It is similar to Capitol Reef in some ways, but has some differences. The cliffs in Dinosaur are significantly higher, but there aren't so many jagged fins and as many rounded domes. Much of the plateaus in Dinosaur are rolling sagebrush hills with hidden canyons cut through them (Such as Buckwater Draw that I have a page on).
You will have to head out there. Lots of cool stuff.
PS, if you let me know what part of Captitol Reef you are visiting, just drop me an email. I know of quite a few hidden ruins, canyons, pictographs, etc, that are off the radar, so let me know what part you intend to visit.
Yup, I noticed your photos are much improved. I also noticed the quantity is much greater too, another dead giveaway of a digital camera:) I just got back from the Maze (postponed the trip from 2 weeks ago) - shot 250 photos in 3.5 days!
On May 12th 2012 three of us went up Split Mountain to scout a route to the top of the Central Pinnacle. We ended up summiting that day. The route was challenging, but we completed the entire trip in seven hours. I had made a summit register but neglected to pack it as it was only a reconnaissance trip. I believe we were the first to summit because the only way down was to rappel from a ledge about 25' below the summit, there were no slings or any sign of an anchor to be found. We rapped off a blue sling wrapped around two bushes on that ledge.
I would guess 5.9ish at the crux. It was about a 45ft climb. There was only one solid spot to place pro and that was a crack 2/3 of the way up. It's loose and brittle sandstone. I think I stood there at the crux for 20 minutes just feeling for a hold to trust.
