From Unicoi Gap

Earned those views
This AT section is a strenuous one, with Blue Mountain on one side and Tray Mountain the other. Rocky Mountain is a steep up, a nice view from openings near the summit, and then a steep down. Relax up tom, enjoy the views, you've earned them.

Training Hike
4/30/2017----Rocky Mountain and Tray Mountain: Georgia --- 4,016’ and 4,430’
Scott and I started at Unicoi Gap, got on the AT, and then hiked up Rocky Mountain. The peak of Rocky Mountain was in a cloud and very windy and misty. It felt great though!!! From there we hiked down to Indian Grave Gap, then Tray Gap, and finally up Tray Mountain. Once again the summit was very windy, but by this time all of the clouds had burned away and we were left with absolutely great views of the Appalachian Mountains.
o Begin at 2949’, summit Rocky Mountain at 4017’, down to 3150’ at Indian Grave Gap, then up to 4430’ at Tray Mountain.
o A combined total of 3300’ of elevation gain.
o 9.95 miles round trip, all on the Appalachian Trail

Good grief, that was a long time ago.

NB AT
We hiked up this peak from Unicoi Gap in a dense fog. Even at the summit, we could not see a thing. We began descending toward Indian Grave Gap and as we neared the overlooks, the clouds parted and treated us to fantastic views.
