had a fun adventure with my troop from San Jose, CA in the early 1990s. We made a fun loop of 60 or 70 miles and climbed Mt Phillips & Tooth of Time in the process. Looking back, the highlights that were most memorable: catching and skinning and eating a squirrel at the "pioneer camp, the epic hail storm half way through our trip that shredded tents, eating Golden Grahams at base camp, and sitting on a boulder that started to slide towards a cliff on Tooth of Time (we survived). I still have the Philmont 50th anniversary panoramic poster hanging in my bedroom. A teenage trip of a lifetime.
I took a 6pack of Dr. Pepper with me on one trip. Yeah, real smart.
'92 was the first year I made it to Philmont. It is fantastic!

Been There a Bunch
I've been there a number of time. Over the years I've attended three different training classes through the Philmont Training Center (one in the backcountry), as well as Wood Badge at Zastro. Also completed a trek in June 2005. Have also stopped in while traveling through a number of other times--it's not far off the path when headed from here to northern AZ/southern CO. --mark d.
