East Slopes
About three and a half hours from the Blank Gulch Trailhead. It was all kinds of windy at the near the top, but a nice day and a pretty decent hike.

Blank Gulch
I left the Blank Gulch trailhead at 6:50 AM and arrived at Shavano's summit at 9:45. There is no snow left in the Angel now. There were some ominous clouds off to the northwest, so there was some concern about whether the weather would cooperate for Tabeguache. Fortunately, it did. I took a short break there, and then headed over to Tabeguache.

feeding the rat
In his musings on mountaineering A. Alvarez describes climbing as an annual checkup, deliberately putting oneself in diffcult situations and refers to this as "feeding the rat". While climbing Shavano from Blank Cabin I actually fed the rat also....some hose insulation from under the hood of my car. Still made the summit and limped to the dealership in Salida.

East Slopes from Blank Gulch TH
#2! Good hike with men from church. Enjoyed all the mountain goats at the saddle.
Man, this was my hradest 14er yet considering it was my second climb. ha. Summited Shavano and Tab in one day. We did it pretty fast though. Round trip time was about 7 hours 50 mins.

Angel butt-kicking
Ascended and descended the Angel, snow conditions were ideal from treeline to the summit. Storms were moving in and prevented a traverse to Tabeguache
Beautiful day for a climb! Took a little longer than I thought but that wasn't disappointing at all. FYI, Moonlight Pizza in Salida really hits the spot after a long day of climbing!

Marmot at the Summit
There was this marmot at the summit, and I mean *at* the summit. Sitting on the second to top-most rock. Evidently begging for food.
Bagged this one twice in my short lifetime so far.

East Slopes with JP!
Had the pleasure of climbing with my son, JP. He lounged on the summit while I went over and tagged Tabegauche. It is always a joy to climb with my son!

Goat
Great climb, most of the Angel was gone but got within 100ft of a mountain goat on the way down.

Darn It!
Set out to get Tabeguache since I had summited Shavano before. But guess I am getting slower and with some weather coming in, decided to just do Shavano today. Third time is the charm-- will have to try it again in a couple months and get an earlier start.
Don't feel bad. I just summited Tabegauche yesteday after 3 tries. Last year I was turned around twice; once by weather and the other time nausea. Third time will be the charm!
