Mt. Herman trail
Great trail and solitude with a nice summit for hanging out and enjoying views. Plenty of shade on way up, just pay attention to the trail as there are lots of off-trails near the top.

Mt Herman
Nice quick climb with great views. Go for the south summit as well.
Made a quick stop at Dirty Woman Park on the way to the TH. I was hoping to get a humorous picture me next to a sign but the only sign I saw was uninspiring.
I really enjoyed this mountain and was happy to have gotten a spot in that tiny TH. Great hike for when you don't have all day.
I'm reminded how easy it is to get out of hiking shape!

Found a nice, primitive direct trail to the summit. Better views than I anticipated.
Comboed with Raspberry Mountain. Lots of bushwhacking.

Son's First Summit
It was my son's 6th birthday and this was his very first summit ever by himself. He was super proud. On the summit register just before us was an entry from earlier in the day that said (in very shaky writing)... "Great hike for a 94 year old."
Awesome. Wish I could of met that guy.

Front Side, Red Rock Rd.
Have done the backside from Mt. Herman Rd. several times with the family but wanted to give the front side a go. Talked a friend into joining me by indicating it would be a "nice easy hike" to the top. It was MUCH steeper than I anticipated and I found myself apologizing to my buddy and prodding him along by telling him over and over that we were almost there. With packed snow and some ice, Micro-Spikes made the summit possible with pleasure. Unseasonably warm day and the summit was full of visitors. Back at the parking lot, the GPS registered just under 3 miles round trip and 1700 feet of elevation gain. Over a beer later, we recounted what was a gorgeous hike with awesome views and my friend said he would be ready to do it again real soon.

finally went up the front side
We hike up from the Mt. Herman Rd. trailhead quite often. It's an easy hike with a great view. We've attempted the Red Rock Rd. trail during the winter a few times, but the snow/ice turned us back before reaching the top. Today we did it! It gets pretty steep in some areas with a lot of scree - makes it harder to go down than up actually. Two adults with a toddler in the backpack & a dog all managed pretty well. Hiking sticks were a big help. Including hanging out at the top for a while, the round trip was about 2.5 hours.
