Nicely done page- detailed, with good information! This formation had my attention all the time it was within sight while I was in the area- impressive!! I hope, however, that not too many people try to climb this (or off of the trails around it), as this has to be one of the most fragile environments I've ever visited.
True, the Badlands are quite fragile, but the Beacon has rather good consolidation. That's why it has withstood the erosion that's washed away the rest of the surrounding hillsides. There are a few packed trails up the ridges of the Beacon that provide good purchase and once you're on the spine it's pretty hard packed. Still I agree that too many people in the area will cause the pristine nature of the Badlands to be degreded. Thanks for you post and vote.

Untitled CommentI didn't know you could actually climb this thing. I somehow assumed it was off limits.

Untitled CommentNice little page. I wouldn't want to go back to that place. I don't like the desert.

Untitled CommentGreat page, I love the desert.
One thing: it appears that your direction from the north is duplicated in the text.
Thanks
