Stopped here while my wife and I were driving back to Utah from Colorado. Decided to spend a couple days following the old Oregon, California, Mormon, Pony Express trail across Wyoming. Scrambled up to take in the views and see the signatures.

Bunnies on top!
Passing through on a road trip and excited to check out this historic area. Easy 5 minute scramble to the top from the western portion of the trail. Encountered several small rabbits near the top of the rock! I also hiked around the rock and checked out some old Oregon Trail markers along the Sweetwater River. Beautiful area.
Hiked with a large group as a side trip on a larger expedition in that area. Extremely short hike--the shortest peak hike ever--but the views are actually quite nice, provided you can stand all the nothing. That, and the ludicrously high winds--never in all my life have I ever seen a wind like the winds up atop this little peak. It was so strong that if you jumped straight up while facing into the wind, you'd be moved backwards. I explored the entire bulk of the peak, and boy, are there a lot of signatures up there, the earliest I saw being from 1852. Would recommend this peak, and most definitely the nearby scenic Devil's Gate, to anyone who happens to be in the area, likes history, or wants sweeping views of the untamed wilds of the state of Wyoming. My first peak outside of the state of Utah.

Nice big rock!
Hiked to the top of this one with my Dad, my brother Barton, and my youngest brother Guy on the way back from a family vacation in The Black Hills area of South Dakota.

Very Interesting Spot
Besides Independence Rock, nearby Devil's Gate is worth checking out if you're interested in Oregon Trail history.

Great views from top!
Easy scramble up the northern side of the rock, great views! Lots of pronghorn antelope in the area and beautiful clouds and surrounding landscape.
