Skimo Summit   Sucess!

Ski trip to the summit of Hole in the Mountain. We could drive almost to the tow slope where the skin began. Conditions were firm early. We ascended up the main couloir on the NE ridge, two of us switched to a crampon boot pack halfway to the couloir while one of our group skinned ask the way up with ski-crampons. We opted not to Traverse down to the hole. The ski off the summit was great, snow conditions were pretty heavy on the bottom half by noon.

37 peaks in 19 days  Sucess!

There was bad weather for weeks in WA so Heather and I drove through OR, CA, NV, UT, and ID. We climbed 37 peaks in 19 days and on the 11th day of the trip we did Hole in the Mountain Peak. We could see from where we parked that the couloir had snow in it. This peak proved to be a little harder than the some of the others on our list. We saw 3 mother goats near the summit and one kid. trip report

Unexpectadly nice.  Sucess!

Lizzie's basin is a very pretty area with abundant goat and grouse. I also unexpectadly saw 2 pika, a hummingbird and a beaver. I certainly didnt think of seeing them deep in Nevada. Maybe here, the Rubies and Great Basin National I suppose. I made the drive about 700 vertical feet higher than the 2WD point posted in an old Subaru and think most higher clearance cars could as well. There is a small flat spot to park on the right by a large rock outcropping before you most definitely will need high clearance and very likely 4 low. Driving in this takes over a mile off and just leaves the steepest section to walk. Only very minor bushwaking is necessary if you can follow the trail from the upper lot to just below the cliffs as stated, dont turn down an elk trail too soon. You can make it, but will have to crouch throught the dense aspens alot more.

Hole in the Mountain Peak  Sucess!

Great hike. I started hiking at the FS boundary sign, not wanting to beat my truck up the last 1.5 miles of rough road. From the end of the road there was some bushwhacking involved to get into Lizzie's Basin, but not too bad. Still some lingering snow and there were several streams flowing pretty good down through the basin. The route up the gully to the saddle was steep, yet very convenient as the rest of the basin is a fortress. Very cool area, I think I took more pictures on this hike than any other I have done in a while.

Snow climb  Sucess!

Half-day slush-climb from the east. The ridge to the hole is, unfortunately, blocked by an impasse just south of the summit. Trip report.

Neat feature  Sucess!

The hole is visible from the highway below and makes this one an interesting area. Drove up to Lizzie's basin (tough on vehicle)
and hiked to the peak with Dennis Poulin and Ken Jones. Great views.

hometown peak  Sucess!

Living in Wells for the summer, so I decided I had to climb the mountain I see everyday from my door. Really fun climb, quite a bit harder than most hikes and had flies bugging me the entire way, but completely worth it!
