Nice shotI've been here several times and always love it. ID: the pointed peak on the right is Manly Beacon, and there is also an SP page for it.

Re: Nice shotThanks a lot for your comment! I was about to pull this photo from SP as nobody seemed to notice it. Also, thanks for identifying that peak for me. I was wondering whether it had a name.

Re: Nice shotDon't pull it. It's nice. You might attach it to the Manly Beacon page, where it might get more notice.

Re: Nice shotUsually I pull a picture if it doesn't get a vote/comment after being up for a month or so. Your comment pretty much saved this picture :) Golden Canyon is my favorite place in Death Valley. As pictures go, I really liked the BW one you took (Manly Beacon page). Thanks again.
Vlad.

Re: Nice shotAnd thank you! And I'm glad I "saved" your shot. It would have been a shame to take it down.

Re: Nice shotDon't pull it. It is a nice image. Golden Canyon is one of the places I want to check out when we go to Death Valley next month.

Re: Nice shotYes, Lisa. Check it out. It is an amazing place. One drawback is the crowds. But if you go as far as Red Cathedral or Manly Beacon you will hardly see anyone there.

Re: Nice shotLisa, Golden Canyon is surreal and worth it. It might be crowded, but press deeper and explore side canyons (just make sure to keep track of your turns). I've climbed Manly Beacon twice, once from each end, and it's awesome. There's more-challenging climbing on the large, dark formation between Manly and the Golden Canyon trailhead, and I can almost guarantee you no one else will be up there. Expect Class 3-4 depending on the route you find and expect superb views of the Panamints and the salt pan and the badlands. Have a great trip. I'm jealous!

Thanks for the advice!I am going with my husband and he tends to be cautious, so I suspect we will be sticking to fairly well traveled hikes on this trip. That is one of the reasons I've been looking at some of the canyons as possibilities. Luckily, he doesn't mind running accross other people when we hike. :-)
I'm going to spend a week in Joshua Tree, before he meets me, so I'll have to get my climbing and scrambling fix there.
