Climbed it in the afternoon in a strong snowstorm. Waited a couple days and the storm cleared and went up again in the morning for amazing snow-covered views

A nice stop
I passed the other trekkers on the way to the top and had the little summit to myself first thing in the morning. Beautiful experience. Also useful, as from there I was able to eyeball the path to Renjo La. I ran down, had breakfast, crossed Renjo La, and walked down to Thame that same day. I was all alone on Renjo La and it was covered in snow. I saw weird little foot prints, still wondering what they were!

Straightforward and worthwhile
Clearer and arguably more stunning views than from Kala Pattar (and in my opinion, an easier summit). We passed many heavily outfitted climbers on the way up, but this hill is a walk in the park if not for altitude. We continued to the far end of the ridge where the true summit is. Lakes still frozen and the town of Gokyo still covered in a heavy blanket of snow. Breathtaking.

Big Ugly Hill
What this hill lacks in appearance, it makes up for with great summit views. We came from Gorak Shep through Phortse since Cho La was closed. There is still a lot of snow around the lakes in March and the lakes are frozen. I think the view of Everest from here is better than Kala Pattar.

nice trek
nice walk up, maybe not so good idea to go in April, as the beautiful blue lake was covered by snow and ice :-(

Unforgettable
Quite possibly the most majestic panorama I have ever witnessed in my life. Getting there before sunrise was really special to enjoy the peaceful atmosphere. I scattered my Mom's ashes amidst these glorious peaks surrounding Gokyo Ri. May she rest in peace nestled in the mountains of Nepal.

Nice day
It was my first visit to Himalaya and the south summit of Gokyo Ri was my first peak summited in this wonderful trip. The day was spectacular with one of the most beatiful landscapes of my life (Cho Oyu, Everest, Makalu, Cholatse, Ama Dablam...)
After the climb we walked to Tanag in order to spend the night to cross the next day Cho La pass to everest base camp trek.

Normal route from Gokyo
My first peak above 5000m. We were very lucky with the weather, hardly any clouds were to be seen. Spectacular views.

Great panorama, the first peak on our 3 week trip in Nepal.
Extremely clear weather, we could also see Makalu.

Normal route
Went to the top during my first trek in the Himalayas. Views were fantastic (a gross understatment). I would recommend going for sunset-- same goes for Kala Pataar. Further up valley toward Cho Oyu are a number of similar 'hills' worth wandering up. In many ways these were even more spectacular! SOOO much to explore in the Gokyo valley if you take the time.

Hiked it in the early morning and had incredible views. Some people say April is too late for trekking in this area, but the haze was no problem once we got above Namche Bazaar. Enjoyed Gokyo Ri so much, we hiked it a 2nd time hoping for a great sunset. Unfortunately the clouds moved up the valley and we were completely fogged out before the sun went down.

A Far Better View of Everest Than from Kala Patar
Goyko Ri has a tremendous view of Everest and other peaks. Get up there early. Scramble N. along the ridge for even better views.
My friend, Scott, and I decided to extend our stay in Nepal by a few days to hike up to Gokyo Ri. We had spent 3 weeks on the Khombu when we met some travelers from South Africa who had just come from Gokyo. We hoofed it back down to Namche to call the airlines and change our flight out Lukla. It was worth the extra hiking! Beautiful hike and wonderful views!

Route Climbed: Normal Route from Gokyo Village Date Climbed: november 2013Easily accessible peak in a stunning scenery.
In my opinion the best way to explore Everest Region is to hike into the Valley of Gokyo and cross the Cho La Pass to the Valley of Solo Khumbu.
