Have a question, do you, by any chance, know the age of the petrifies forest in this area? I am very much fascinated by petrified wood and have visited "Petrified Forest" in Arizona a number of times. Thanks in advance.
My guide book talks about "...Chinle formation, a Triassic shale...". Not that I know much geology but I suppose that means it is from the Triassic Period.
I was in Petrified Forest in Arizona in 1994. As I remember, there were huge petrified logs that were very impressive. On Chinle Trail I did not see anything as impressive as in Arizona. Only small pieces of petrified wood.

Re: StunningThank you for looking and voting. It was an amazing place. The snow made it more dramatic.
