Re: BeautifulYes it is indeed a nice mountain. Although we had some problems with one of our team member getting severe sick from his stomach. We needed a horse to get him back the 2-daytrail from BC to the next road, because he was to weak to walk.
Everybody who goes to Peru: take care with the food and don´t eat meat there!

Re: BeautifulIt's really easy to get a stomach virus in Peru. As my guides have told me multiple times "Peruvian food is a delicacy everywhere except in Peru". Great shot.

Re: Beautiful"Everybody who goes to Peru: take care with the food and don´t eat meat there!"
what a stupid comment! there were 2,5 millions of tourist in Perú in 2010, so all they got sick for food? don't be ridiculous!

Re: BeautifulI don't see, what should be stupid or ridiculous with this comment. I don't refer to a wide range of tourists. This is a mountaineering site! This comment is my personal experience during mountaineering. In our group one member got seriously sick from salmonellae. He was so weak, we needed a horse to get him back in to civilisation. I met at least two other independent travelling mountaineers who also suffered severe stomach sickness.
There is for sure a statistic peak of those infections, that catch up to travelling mountaineers from the northern hemisphere. I also mountaineered in Chile, Argentina, Mexico, Venezuela, Nepal and all European countries of the Alps, but in any other country never met such a strong risc of getting sick from food.
There is for sure a relation to low hygenic standards in Peru.

Re: I have to sideIn German it's called "Schaum-Eis" what might be translated to English as "foam-ice"?

Re: Thanks....We weren't laughing at the mountain, we were
laughing "with" the mountain! The South
American peaks are always fasinating to look
at, whether they resemble whipped cream or
not. If I ever tried to attempt what some of
these outstanding ice and snow climbers are
doing, I would be nothing but "creamed." :)
